Historic Estates Ltd is a company registered in the UK founded in 2010 for the purpose of preserving historic estates.
In 2022 the organisation purchased the gothic Château de la Villedieu in Charente-Maritime. Château de la Villedieu is a flamboyant gothic style castle erected by the Allard family. It is flanked on its main facade by a polygonal tower on one angle, and two circular turrets on two other angles, and adorned with machicolations. The chateau has a number of sloping terraces in the garden preceding the building with two impressive renaissance portals, a medieval gothic portal and with an accolade surmounted by battlements. At the time of purchase Château de la Villedieu was under threat of falling into complete disrepair, with significant roof leaks, conversion into smaller commercial rental units and a derelict garden.
However, noow the château will be protected for the preservation and enjoyment of future generations. Château de la Villedieu used to be – and still is – a beautiful and dramatic castle with a garden with a varied range of species, and the property’s noble history add to its attractions.
Without our supporters around the world and their original contributions to this venture we would not have achieved this. We thank you more than words can say.
